On Sunday, Sen Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told CNN’s “State of the Union” that President Trump pulling out of the Paris Accord would indicate to the world that Trump sees climate change as a “hoax,” reflecting poorly on the GOP and the US.
“If he does withdraw, that would be a definitive statement from the president that he believes climate change is a hoax,” said Graham.
“It would be taken as a statement that climate change is not a problem; is not real,” he added. “So that would be bad for the party, bad for the country.”
Graham’s comment followed Trump’s refusal to support the Accord at the G7 summit and amidst the spreading rumors that Trump has told confidantes he will withdraw.
On Saturday, Trump tweeted that he hadn’t made up his mind.
I will make my final decision on the Paris Accord next week!
