GOP rep just suggested we harm the most vulnerable Americans to pay for wall

Steve King, a Republican Congressman from Iowa, has always coveted the attention of the far right.  In 2015, King prominently displayed the confederate battle flag in his congressional office. Earlier this year, King tweeted, “We can’t restore our civilization with somebody else’s babies.”  This tweet was seen by many as glorifying white nationalism.  King has now spoken his mind on welfare, planned parenthood, and the border wall in a statement Tuesday.

Following the House Appropriations committee passing a bill that would provide $1.6 billion to build a border wall separating the United Sates from Mexico, King spoke to the  Washington Examiner.  H called for an extra $5 billion for the border wall. He said, “I would find half of a billion dollars of that right out of Planned Parenthood’s budget, and the rest of it could come out of food stamps and the entitlements that are being spread out for people that haven’t worked in three generations.”  King is proposing that the government cut programs that help the most vulnerable Americans, who need access to health services to planned parenthood and need food stamps to feed their children.  All for a wall that most experts agree will not work.  This revolting low level of empathy is common among Republicans in Congress, King just says what his fellow representatives are thinking.
